Wine Spotlight: Braganini Reserve Sauvignon Blanc

Body

Sauvignon Blanc is a European Vinifera grape, and its name means “wild white” since it used to grow wild in the hills of France. Luckily, it was quickly recognized for producing wines with great minerality, notes of citrus, fresh cut grass and a nice crisp “pucker” finish.

The Braganini Reserve Estate Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown at our Mountain Road Estate Vineyard. These grapes are rigorously monitored to provide the best quality worthy of our Estate wines. What makes a great Sauvignon Blanc is the balance between fresh herbal green flavors and the ripe tropical fruit flavors all combined with crisp acidity. At. St. Julian, the winemaking team achieves this balance through a dual harvest.

The first picking of 1/3 of the grapes is done in early September to maintain the bright grassy and green flavors. In late September, when the grapes are much riper and have more juicy tropical flavors, the rest of the grapes are harvested. Each lot of grapes are fermented separately at the time of harvest and then blended for aging.

Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect wine to welcome spring and summer. On the nose, expect pungent, in-your-face aromas of freshly cut grass, gooseberry, ripe passion fruit, grapefruit, and lime. The flavors mirror the aromas, finishing with a classic crisp acidity. Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most food friendly white wines.

It’s a match with feta and goat cheese, and most green vegetables like Brussels sprouts, fennel, and asparagus. Bonus if the dish includes a sauce with citrus notes! Salty or briny fish and shellfish flavors will pop with the acidity. Also, it’s amazing with pesto pasta, Thai chicken salad, fish tacos, and Asian foods like Pad Thai.
