Ingredients

  • 3 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz red wine

Instructions

  1. The first step is to make the simple syrup. You can purchase it but homemade is so much better! To make simple syrup, combine equal amounts of sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once the mixture is clear and the sugar has dissolved, remove it from heat. Allow the syrup to cool before using.
  2. Combine bourbon, simple syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice, then shake vigorously for 30 seconds until the mixture becomes frothy. Strain and pour the cocktail over fresh ice in a glass.
  3. Hold the back of a bar spoon just above the surface of your cocktail, positioned near the rim of the glass. Gently pour the red wine over the spoon, allowing it to softly cascade onto the drink.
