Chewy-Gooey Brownie Bites

1 2/3 cups cane sugar
3/4 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons water
2 large eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Powdered sugar (optional)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 13 x 9-inch baking pan with parchment paper and then grease the parchment paper and set aside. In a large bowl, combine sugar, butter and water. Stir in eggs and vanilla extract. In a medium-size bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir flour mixture into sugar mixture, add nuts, if using, then spread into the prepared baking pan.


Bake for 18 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out with a few moist (not wet) crumbs clinging to it. Cool in pan completely then, using a small biscuit cutter, cut into tiny bites. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and garnish with chocolate curls, if desired.
