Tasting Notes

Alluring nose of vanilla, hazelnut and butterscotch intertwined with toast, chocolate and anise. Flavors from the aroma emerge through the palate, making it soft and smooth. A finish with style, which lingers effortlessly. The bouquet and palate will complex with age. Years of patience and perseverance have brought us a new product that, once again, showcases the world-class quality of Michigan’s fruit belt. The distillate coming off the still is clear. In order for our A&G brandy to become a nice golden brown color, it must be aged in oak barrels. It is aged for a minimum of 10 years in Hungarian and French oak barrels. The barrels are medium toast with toasted heads, which imparts caramel aromas, nutty flavors and a delicious finish.

Production Notes

Our German Christian Carl Copper Still is loaded with mash in order to distill brandy. To ensure that we capture the best distillate, we evaluated the distillate in order to make a cut to remove the heads and tails in the distilling process. At the beginning of distillation, components vaporize which are designated as the "heads" portion of distillate. This portion contains the most volatile substances and pungent aromas, so it is discarded. Once this cut is made, we collect the main portion of the distillate, here being brandy. Towards the end of the distillation process, substances transfer into the distillate, which lower the quality. We make a second cut to gather this so-called "tails" portion of the distillate, which will be re-distilled at another time.
